This song describes my father's relationship with my sisters and me. It sadly reflects the same relationship that I have with my own children, very sad. Sometimes the fathers have to work those long hours and be away for long periods of time. Too bad we dads cannot all work 9 to 5 and spend time at home. I now realize my father was not to blame and that he wanted a better life for us. He really was not such and ass hole as we always believed.

I am constantly ammused that people do not know basic music history. I remember in school, the 8th grade to be exact that we read this song in it's true form, a poem written by Harry Chapin's wife. At any rate it is a great song and Cat Stevens only sang it in the shower.
